During the school holidays, I usually look after my grandchildren on Wednesdays and like to get them out of the house for the day. Point Walter has been a favourite destination for many years – somewhere they can all enjoy themselves while being relatively easy for me to keep an eye on!
It also brings back memories of doing much the same thing with my friends and our children when they were young.
On this particular day, I had five grandchildren with me (sometimes there are eight!) and we walked out along the spit into the Swan River. Thinking I might turn the moment into a painting, I asked them to do something interesting – or at least jump!
For me, this painting captures the joy of childhood and the special bond these cousins share from growing up and spending so much time together.
