When I saw this beautiful photograph of our daughter-in-law, Ally, with our newest grandson, Maxi, on her shoulders, I knew I wanted to try painting it.
I’d recently completed a portrait drawing course, but this was my first serious portrait painting. My teacher, Jana, quickly pointed out that I’d gone about it the wrong way and suggested I enrol in her Portrait Painting Course! Thankfully, with her guidance, we got it back on track.
It took many hours to complete, but my greatest hope was simply that I had captured the essence of both Ally and Maxi. That had always been my biggest concern about painting people – would they be recognisable?
Our son was delighted to receive it as his birthday gift, and that made all the hard work worthwhile.
