Having already painted gifts for two of our hosts before our overseas trip, I thought it would be lovely to take one to our family in Trinidad as well.
This painting is based on a photograph I took at Castle Rock Beach one winter morning while waiting for the sun to rise. I was captivated by the warm glow spreading across the water and the reflections dancing on the wet sand as the waves rolled in around the rocks.
I set myself the challenge of painting it almost entirely with a palette knife. In the end, I did use a brush for a few finishing touches, but I was pleased with how the palette knife captured the texture and movement of the scene.
