My sister Carol took the original photo of this beautiful Cattleya orchid in bloom in Singapore, and I just had to paint it.
I wasn’t quite as taken with the background in the original photo, though, so I decided to create my own. I found a photo we’d taken many years earlier in a Japanese garden in Sydney and used it as inspiration for the pond behind the orchid.
So this painting is really a combination of two lovely places and two different memories. I was very happy with how it all came together.
