I joined a Facebook group that shares reference photos for artists and came across this lovely photo of a field of flowers in the Flower Belt in Helmsley, UK, posted by Kavitha Mani.

I happened to have a canvas board on hand that one of my kids had left behind years ago and that, somehow, I’d never thrown out. What a bonus for me now!

I set out to paint the whole thing with the palette knife, trying to keep the style as free and easy as possible. I wasn’t entirely successful – I do have trouble resisting the urge to add detail!

By the time I got to all that greenery, I’d had enough, so I cheated a little and brought out the brush to finish it off.
